Beginning affiliate marketers often question whether you can truly make a substantial income with a blog or website. You absolutely can and we’ll talk about how it’s done in this post.
Keywords Create the Traffic, and Traffic is Key
So, let’s say you have a website about losing weight and you’re promoting a specific diet and exercise, plus miscellaneous weight-loss books people can buy on Amazon.
Using the “low hanging fruit” method of keyword use, you choose for each post a keyword or keyword phrase that has very little competition but still has Google searches and website hits. You can find these keywords through a tool by the name of Jaaxy, and we’ll cover that in a later post.
For example, you write a post using a keyword phrase that has only 10 other competing websites, but the searches number 60 a month with 30 hits on a website resulting from that search. With only 10 other competitors for that keyword search you are very likely going to rank on the first page of Google.
If each post’s keyword phrase gets you traffic of 30 visitors a month, and 10% of that traffic converts (3 people) at a $10 commission per conversion you will have $30 per month from that one post.
When you have 50 posts on one website or blog all doing the same thing, you will have $1,500 per month just from the one website. If you have 100 posts you will have $3,000 per month. At 3 blog posts per week it will take you a little over 8 months to get to a 100 posts for one website or blog.
Multiply, Multiply, Multiply
If you have 5 different websites and/or blogs all doing the same low percentage you can potentially have $15,000 per month in income (5 x $3,000). Now increase that with a more likely scenario of traffic of 60 a month per post and a 20% conversion of $15 each. 12 x $15 = $180 x 50 posts = $9,000.
Five websites all doing the same thing, $9,000 x 5 = $45,000 per month. $45,000 x 12 months = $540,000. Even at 50% Federal, State, and FICA/SDI in Income taxes (for the United States) and you are NETTING $270,000.
You are putting $270,000 in your pocket each year and it just keeps growing from there. That’s the magic of keywords that get you ranked in Google and writing a lot of content for your blog or website.
Pie in the Sky?
No, this is reality. And there are many, many people on Wealthy Affiliate who are doing just that. Some have more than five websites or blogs. Some promote specific affiliates while others have general affiliates, like Amazon.
Who doesn’t buy something on Amazon once they are there? And when they click on the link from your website to go to Amazon, every single item they buy there will create a commission for you!
And take into consideration that this is just driving traffic to your website or blog from ranking on search engines like Google and Bing. We’re not even talking about using social media yet, like Facebook, Twitter, and so on and so on.
Once you get a following to your blogs from social media sky’s the limit. The potential is just enormous.
But If Everybody’s Doing This . . .
You don’t need to worry about that, you really and truly don’t. There’s enough business out there for everyone, and you can take that to the bank. There are literally billions of people on the internet now. Are they all looking for what you are selling? Of course not. But if even .001% (that’s 1/1000 of 1%) is looking for what you are writing about, the potential audience is 40,000 people for your blog or website. (4,000,000,000 x .00001). Wow! Even 1/10,000 of 1% is 4,000, so you have a lot of people out there looking for your writing on the internet.
Sorry. I was a bookkeeper in a former life and I love to play with numbers. But the point is there are thousands of potential customers out there, you just have to reach them and get their attention.
And, like we’ve said before, when they visit your website or blog they are already interested in what you have to say and in what you are recommending. Does every visitor convert, or buy something? No, they don’t. But you don’t need all of them to buy, you only need a percentage of them and then build on that, over and over again.
It Seems too Good to Be True
It is good and it is true, but it’s not an overnight accomplishment. Remember always that you are building a business and not winning the lottery with this type of work. It is a feasible way to get paid to work online though, and you are your own boss. It’s a beautiful thing.
Is it right for everyone? Honestly, it’s not, and I’ve written a post about that, too. There are certain personality traits that a person will need to have to be successful in this field. If you have the desire and the ability to learn though, this is an interesting and potentially lucrative way to create passive income online.
And the word “passive” is really a misnomer. Because there’s nothing passive about writing the posts and laying the groundwork for your website or blog. The “passive” income comes later when you’ve built your business. But don’t let that scare you away because you’ll have fun building it!
In our next post we’re going to talk about the keyword search tool called Jaaxy. This is a wonderful way to find low-competition keywords and keyword phrases to use on your website or blog.
There are other ways to find keyword searches as well and we’ll also talk about those.
